Cause Description:
The Project Scissor Gait Foundation will educate, promote, and provide research opportunities about the Scissor-gait, and hopefully help everyone live more meaningful lives. My hope is that my foundation will also inspire not only the disability community, but the general public too. No matter what cards you are dealt with in life, utilize the abilities you have, think positive and do not dwell on the bad. Arthrogryposis affects 1 out of 3000 live births. I was one of those affected, but I want to make a difference in our society. When I was little, I had a very hard time walking until I learned how to walk cross-legged (Scissor Gait). Both of my hips are dislocated, which is one of the main reasons why this works out well for me. Because of the Scissor Gait I do not need a walker or other devices for short distances. As far as I know there is are very few known cases of the Scissor Gait that is used,. What I would like to see happen, is more people in the medical profession take notice of the scissor-gait and document it as well as use this information to help others achieve the level of independence that I have acquired. I am ready and willing to break the barriers that says we have to do everything the normal way. What is normal anyway??? Through the foundation I will also help local and national disability programs/projects and provide them any support I can.
